CENTRALA will introduce colour, energy and an element of surprise to the interior of the building that previously served as the weaving and spinning mill of the textile factory “Naum Eitingon and Ska”. A multi-colour mesh structure will be interlaced with all storeys of the building. Polychromatic surfaces and wisps of taut tape will be spread out in the factory space that is characterised by glass elevations and a pattern of reinforced concrete posts. The tape will outline particular zones, emphasise important points and guide visitors through the Festival Centre.
At the same time, this design solution will not disrupt the aesthetic qualities of the building. The usage of capillary boards allows for interweaving furniture, displays and vertical partitions into the structure. The delicate structure will constitute the element linking particular exhibitions that will be present in every nook and cranny of the building.
The intention of CENTRALA is to evoke associations with the contemporary art of urban knitting, folk festivals, and – first and foremost – with the city’s past and the history of the Old Weaving Mill. And so they will weave this year’s exhibition together.
